Our Training Group

Joliet Schutzhund exists for the fun of it and the reality of it.

Schutzhund is not something that you can do entirely by yourself.

You make faster progress by using expert helpers and trainers.

Expert Schutzhund help is rarely close to home.

Joliet Schutzhund exists to organize our fun and to provide access to superior Schutzhund training for anyone willing to travel to Joliet, IL.

We are not affiliated with the WDA , USA. or any other national Schutzhund organization.

Our members trial and show dogs at events sponsored by many different organizations.

As a group with a common interest in competition-style Schutzhund training, we can economically attract and engage top Schutzhund trainers and Schutzhund helpers to assist us with our mutual goal which is:

To learn to properly handle, train and present our Schutzhunds.

The core group is about two years into consistent and effective Schutzhund training.

We all have our own success stories to tell.

Many of us are handling our first Schutzhunds, others are more experienced.

Our members are men and women from diverse backgrounds.

We also have a young girl, who expertly handles her own dog.

There are no membership fees to be part of our group.

Only the willingness to be a student, and the ability to pay the trainer is required to participate.

We negotiate per-dog  and per-service fees with the trainers in advance on behalf of the group.

You pay the trainer directly for the training you want.

Fees for training vary, depending on the type of training you desire such as protection,  tracking, obedience, or all of the above.

Call 815-723-3085 for more information.

Our current trainer is Dave Blank, certified WDA Helper.

All of us are extremely satisfied with Dave's methods, fees and results.

We hope to continue working with Dave for the foreseeable future.

We primarily use positive reinforcement techniques in our training.

We train outside and year-round in all weather on Saturday mornings.

Dress appropriately.

We WILL be training when others might not even consider being outside.

Don't assume we have canceled for bad weather.

We have only cancelled training for a twice, once for a group field trip the SchH3 Championships and the other for a SchH trial held at Dave Blank's Schutzhund Club.

We do have shelter on the training grounds if the weather gets too dangerous.
